Just think of what an incredible imagination Barks must have had. He discovers that eggs can also be cube-shaped. And that logically those cube-shaped eggs must come from cube-shaped chickens and that those cube-shaped chickens must be living in a cube-shaped world. This is how square land was created.
The story is sublime, I love it and every time I read it I enjoy it. It is definitely one of Barks best stories and I rate it 11/10.

| M3Gr1ml0ck | | | | Thursday, Aug 16, 2018, 04:58:52 PM | Mirabile esempio di letteratura avventurosa illustrata al quale il voto 10/10 non rende giustizia, questo fumetto immortale è ancora perfetto a sessanta anni dalla sua produzione: il senso della scoperta e della meraviglia che accompagna la spedizione in luoghi misteriosi e sconosciuti come oggi non se ne possono più sognare, l'eccezionale struttura narrativa che continuamente raggiunge picchi logici seguiti da un netto taglio che bandisce le ovvietà facilmente deducibili dal lettore, l'umorismo sottile e spiazzante e fulminante, la raffinatezza della psicologia semplice ma non semplicistica di tutti i personaggi, la creatività delle memorabili trovate (l'architettura a cubi degli Inca si riflette nei loro stessi polli cubici iperproteici in "cemento").
E l'arte così precisamente costruita, così favolosamente archetipa nel rendere l'accecamento indotto da una nebbia che sembra viva, così monolitica nel mostrare la città nascosta di Testaquadra, così perfettamente "a tempo" nel narrare i momenti comici e quelli (quasi) angoscianti.
Non so come sia la parlata degli indigeni in originale, ma la versione italiana è felicemente esilarante e in sintonia con lo spirito gioiosamente scanzonato del fumetto.
Un capolavoro.
Non stupisce che Alfredo Castelli abbia apprezzato a tal punto questa storia da riadattarla (dichiaratamente) in Martin Mystère n. 100, sviluppandone alcuni elementi in modo originale e coerente: il grigiore degli indigeni e di ogni cosa del loro regno assume ora un significato metafisico, come anche le canzonette di Carlos Gardel canticchiate da tutti i locali, e nel finale giunge il ritorno dei colori, dandoci l'impressione che Barks avesse pensato anche a questa possibile direzione per la sua storia. |
