In this story we are shown the true nature of Donald. The otherwise unlucky and self-centered duck acts here as the guardian of moral and nature. Here we witness that even though Donald sometimes acts very childish, he is actually a very responsible adult when the situation becomes critical. This story, which in my opinion is one of Barks' absolute finest, tells a tale about the extremely serious threats that arise when carelessness and cowardness rule the day. |

The "bad guy" looks too much like Peg Leg Pete or Neighbor Jones to be interesting by himself (actually, I wonder WHY Barks didn't use one of these two ?), and there aren't as much gags are there should. The same story by Don Rosa (so with more gags) would have been infinitely better. But still… the art is pretty to watch. |

La foresta bruciata dopo l'incendio è un'immagine estremamente forte, cruda, ma vera.
Solo i grandi autori riescono ad inserire temi "adulti" in storie per ragazzi senza risultare scontati, ma mostrando la realtà delle cose con quel giusto mix di veridicità e sensibilità.

I love this characterization of Donald, where he is shown to be a competent and intelligent defender of nature. The way he saves his nephews and himself from the fire is very clever, even though the whole fire, and this scene in particular, are absolutely terrifying, especially for a Disney Comic.
The panel of the fire's aftermath is both amazing and heartbreaking.
It's a story that sadly remains very relevant nowadays. |

Sul fronte della soggetto/sceneggiatura è davvero apprezzabile la serietà dei temi trattati pur non rinunciando al tono brillante e avventuroso che ci si aspetta da questo tipo di fumetti.
Mi ha un po' spiazzato il Paperino risoluto, freddo e deciso che prende il controllo nei momenti di necessità, ma nell'insieme la storia è tra le migliori di sempre. |
